Hip-Hop

Dancers ages learn basic hip-hop-based dance steps and technique to fun music. Class will focus on levels and freezes, stage directions, and adding personality and attitude to movement. 

As Dancers learn how to make movement more grounded, strong, and entertaining, classes will explore different combinations throughout the year. A brief history of how Hip-Hop originated, and how it has evolved is part of class. Dancers work on strength and using different elements in their movement including melting and freezing, isolation, rolls, levels, and basic break-dancing are all included in the syllabus.  

Level 1

4.5 - 8 yrs

Intended for dancers who have completed the Primary levels, or older students who are new to dance. Dancers will have fun while learning various time signatures in music and further articulation of each part of the foot. Will create detailed combinations, challenging riffs, and elaborate on skills such as expanding time steps, one-footed accents and balances like toe stands. This tap class dances in one number in our Showcase in June.

Class placement may vary based on age/skill, please contact us for more info.

**Tap dancers must also be enrolled in ballet based on their level/skill.


Level 2

8 - 12 yrs

One of our most popular classes! Dancers will learn how to make movement more grounded, strong, and entertaining, and explore different pieces of choreography throughout the year. A brief history of how Hip-Hop originated, and how it has evolved is part of class. Dancers work on strength and using different elements in their movement including melting and freezing, isolation, rolls, levels, and basic break-dancing is all included in the syllabus. This class is best suited for dancers at least 7-years old with 2-3 years of hip-hop experience or older dancers with minimal prior experience. Class will perform one dance in the Spring Showcase in June.


Level 3/4

11+

This class is for our oldest/most experienced students. This is our most advance level Hip-Hop class. Dancers will learn how to make movement more grounded, strong, and entertaining, and explore different pieces of choreography throughout the year. A brief history of how Hip-Hop originated, and how it has evolved is part of class. Dancers work on strength and using different elements in their movement including melting and freezing, isolation, rolls, levels, and basic break-dancing is all included in the syllabus. Class will perform one dance at our June Showcase.
